英语写作具有动作技能和智力因素相融合的学习认知属性（Reid, 1993）。学生的英语写作能力必须有写作知识的指导，让学生知道如何写，并在写作过程中将知识转化为能力。许多教师认为，只要学生动笔写作就能提高写作水平，因此一味地要求学生练习写作，但又不教给学生写作知识。学生经过一段时间的努力写作能力仍没有明显提高时，往往会失去写作兴趣。还有些教师认为，学生语法学好了，词汇量大了，阅读面广了，写作水平就会提高，因此在英语教学中花在写作知识学习和训练上的时间远不如听说和阅读的训练多。这些是误导英语写作教学的错误观念。英语写作是动作技能和智力因素相融合的学习结果，在教学实践中二者不可偏颇。

在确定了写作主题后，写作活动不仅是在教材范文基础上的模仿写作，还可通过多种方法推进，如翻译语句、连句成段、选词填空等。写作完毕，教师可引导学生进行班级大讨论，推荐优秀习作，同学在欣赏学习优秀习作的同时进行小组讨论并质疑，提出改进意见，说出自己对话题的理解，从而培养学生积极的思维能力和语言运用能力（杨文娟，20xx）。

（一） 教材分析
目前笔者所在地区采用的是新编北师大版高中英语教材。这套教材一大优点在于其语言材料的组织都是围绕某个主题展开的。每单元有一个主题，下面每一课都有自己的话题，对于这些话题学生都较感兴趣，有话可说。这样的教材编排特点适合开展主题写作活动。每个单元的前三课或四课是单元话题下的基本词汇、短语、句型和语法项目的学习，Communication Workshop是对单元知识的扩展和综合运用，通常有基于单元话题的写作指导及任务。学生获得的单元基础语言知识以及他们运用语言知识的准确和熟练程度，完全可以通过话题写作活动来检验和强化，而且主题写作活动可以体现语言学习的价值和意义。
（二） 主题写作教学实例
下面结合新编北师大版高中英语教材第7模块，第21单元的主题写作教学案例进行探析。
本单元的话题是人类生物学，通过单元学习，学生应能够流利地运用单元目标词汇和基本句型来讨论有关人类科学的相关话题。食物、健康和医学是人类生存和发展中永恒的话题。学生对人类科学有较为浓厚的兴趣，所以此单元话题下的写作围绕人类发展展开，贴近学生的生活，易于激发学生的写作兴趣。学生对单元主题词汇和基础语句已经有了一定的掌握和积累，能够用单元基础语言材料组织语句，表达自己的想法。教师在指导学生进行主题写作时，完全可以依托单元话题语料。
克隆人是在人类生物学发展到今天无法回避的话题，但具有极大争议性，这种本身有争议的话题正适合本单元Communication Workshop的写作要求Learn to write a discursive essay，此文体要求学生第一段介绍话题，第二三段分述反面观点及正面观点，最后一段给出个人观点。但由于克隆人在现实世界中还没有出现，同时又远离学生生活，因此为了给学生带来更直观的感受，教师最好课前布置所有同学回家观看电影《逃离克隆岛》，这部电影探讨了科隆人及其引发的道德问题。
课堂上教师首先利用大量的与主题相关的图片、电影片段等创设谈论克隆人的氛围，让学生用英语表明自己对克隆人这一科学话题的态度。这一活动激活了学生写作所需的话题词汇，可以作为写前的热身。从交际功能的角度讲，这样的听、说形式的语言活动，不但不会冲击主题写作活动，反而与主题写作教学是相互统一、相互促进的。

学生最终完成习作后，将学生的作文张贴在教师里，让学生互相批阅。学生互相批阅能激发他们主动寻找差距的意识，也是对单元目标语言再理解、再巩固的过程。学生从另外的角度反思自己习作中的语言运用，强化语用意识和语言运用能力。教师在学生批阅完后，可再作进一步检查。这属于指导性主题写作。通过教师不同程度的引导和帮助，学生将自己要表达的思想通过一定的逻辑组织后用文字表达出来。
这种主题写作练习可以是独立完成，也可以是小组合作，方式可以灵活多样。指导性主题写作是介于模仿性写作和自由写作之间的过渡性写作，学生在进行大量的模仿性写作练习和指导性写作练习后，才能掌握一定的写作技巧，从而进行自由写作。指导性主题写作可以帮助学生从原始的模仿性单元语料学习过渡到具有创造性的基础语言运用，提升综合语言运用能力。
